Paying it forward: Leading Change Blueprint Alumni Give Back as Mentors

Every journey of growth begins with an opportunity to learn. But perhaps one of the most meaningful signs of growth is what happens when those who once received support choose to return and support others.

At Leading Change Africa, we are seeing this journey come full circle through the Blueprint Accelerator Program. We call it The Ripple Effect.

Former Blueprint participants and young entrepreneurs are returning to the program in a new capacity—not as learners, but as mentors. Having experienced the program’s training, challenges, mentorship, and opportunities firsthand, they are now giving back by supporting a new generation of aspiring entrepreneurs.

Their journey represents more than individual growth. It reflects the power of creating opportunities that multiply over time, as one person’s experience becomes a source of guidance, encouragement, and opportunity for someone else. It is a reminder that the impact of a program does not have to end when the program itself comes to a close.

From Scholars to Mentors

Returning to the Blueprint Accelerator as mentors represents an important new chapter for these alumni. Their role is not simply to provide answers, but to create space for reflection, encourage participants to think critically about their ideas, share lessons from their own experiences, and offer guidance as participants navigate their entrepreneurial journeys. By walking alongside the current cohort, they help bridge the gap between learning and practical action.

Having once been Blueprint participants themselves, they also bring a unique perspective to the mentorship experience. They understand the program, its expectations, and the growth that can come from fully engaging in the process. Their return is a powerful example of paying learning forward.

Learning from Experience: Insights from Our Guest Speakers

The Blueprint journey is strengthened not only through structured training and mentorship, but also through opportunities to learn from professionals, practitioners, and entrepreneurs who bring practical experience and diverse perspectives.

Guest speakers contribute their expertise to help scholars connect what they are learning with the realities of building, growing, and sustaining a venture. In recent weeks, scholars have engaged with experienced professionals whose sessions explored key dimensions of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business development.

Week 5: Marketing Strategy and Artificial Intelligence

During Week 5, scholars welcomed Aichatoun Amadou Toure for a session focused on marketing strategy and artificial intelligence.

The session encouraged scholars to think critically about how businesses can better understand their audiences, position their products and services, and adapt to an increasingly dynamic business environment.

They also explored the growing role of artificial intelligence and how entrepreneurs can leverage emerging tools to innovate and strengthen their business strategies.

Week 6: Customer Strategy and Financial Modeling

In Week 6, scholars engaged with Cheick Camara, who led a session on customer strategy and financial modeling.

The discussion focused on two essential dimensions of building a sustainable venture: understanding the customer and developing a strong financial foundation.

Scholars were encouraged to reflect on customer needs, value creation, and the role of financial planning in making informed decisions as they develop and grow their ventures.

The Power of Paying It Forward

At Leading Change Africa, we believe meaningful impact should continue beyond the completion of a program. The Blueprint Accelerator is not only a space to build entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, but also to strengthen confidence, build relationships, and become part of a community of emerging leaders and changemakers.

When scholars return as mentors, they show that leadership is not only about personal achievement, but also about creating opportunities for others to grow.
