The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarships in the United States. Out of more than 1,600 applicants nationwide, only about 90 scholars were selected this year. Among them is our very own Teegawende Josephine Segrado.

Josephine’s journey reflects resilience, determination, and the transformative power of opportunity. From her early days of striving for academic excellence to becoming part of the LCA community, she has proven that when young people are given the right support, they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world.
Her acceptance into the Cooke Scholar community is not just her personal victory—it’s a win for every aspiring student across Africa who dares to dream.
This story connects back to Ousmane Kabré, founder of LCA and himself a Cooke Scholar alumnus. This month, Ousmane spoke to the newest cohort of Jack Kent Cooke Scholars, offering guidance and sharing his journey as a pathway from scholar to leader. That moment underscores the cycle of impact we nurture: from aspiring scholar, to recognized achiever, to guiding the next generation.
Together, Josephine’s breakthrough and Ousmane’s recent engagement form a powerful narrative, LCA is not just preparing scholars for academic success, but cultivating leaders who inspire and support those who follow.
