Annually, on February 14, people around the globe observe International Book Giving Day, an event focused on sharing the love of reading by providing books to children and communities in need. At Leading Change-Africa, we hold the belief that books are not merely collections of words—they serve as gateways to knowledge, leadership, and transformation.
Why Books Matter
Access to books is a powerful tool for education, leadership, and personal growth. A single book can ignite a passion for learning, shape a future leader, and create opportunities that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, millions of children around the world lack access to books, limiting their ability to develop literacy skills and expand their horizons. A study has analyzed data from 35 countries and has come to conclusion that only 51.8% of children between the ages of 3 to 5 years have at least one book at home. The same study found that children with access to at least one book at home are nearly twice as likely to be on track to improve their literature and numeracy skills as compared to kids who don't have access to books.
How You Can Make A Difference
This International Book Giving Day, we invite you to join us in spreading the gift of knowledge. Here’s how you can participate:
Donate books to schools, libraries, and community centers
Gift a book to a young person in your community
Support literacy programs that provide educational resources to underserved areas.
Share your favorite book and inspire others to read!
At Leading Change-Africa, we are committed to empowering young leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to create a better future. Through our initiatives, including scholarships, leadership programs, and mentorship, we ensure that education remains at the heart of transformation. We are also excited to proclaim that our Founder and CEO Ousmane Kabre has written an insightful book titled Underwriting Dreams: A Journey of Leadership and Hope which speaks a lot about his journey as a young boy from Burkina Faso.
Join the Movement! This February, let's take a step towards where every person has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive- one book at a time.
